In view of the debate on GMOs and the real threat of health challenges due to ingesting food laced with chemical pesticides and herbicides, many have turned to start their own organic garden in their backyard. 
As a professional landscape contractor, building an organic garden is simple, but let me enlighten you on the true cost of building a garden. First, there is the raw cost of materials, which include wood (Raised planters), hardware, composted soil, and an automatic irrigation system (drip, or micro-spray). Add to this the cost of labor and overhead, which includes insurance on vehicles, liability, and auto. Then add a 15% profit margin. Let me give you a price “Out the door”. A four-foot by four-foot raised planted will cost you about $600.00. Then you have the cost of planting the garden. You will need to pull weeds. the water you irrigate with is NOT recycled, so you never see this water again. And last of all, the time….it will take about three months to raise a garden big enough to eat a salad. This is the way we have always done it…until now!
